SANDF joins crackdown on zama zamas

ROODEPOORT - The South African National Defence Force has officially joined the fight against illegal mining.

The first mission was in Roodepoort where they joined a multi-disciplinary law enforcement team which made at least two dozen arrests.

The commander of the SANDF soldiers has warned that it will take years to eradicate the scourge.

The SAPS are grateful for the assistance.

Crackdown operations are expected to continue at illegal mining hotspots on Gauteng's West and East Rand and everywhere in between.
