Samwu Tshwane strike | More workers given dismissal letters

PRETORIA - More Tshwane municipal workers have received letters of dismissal.

The staff members are accused of taking part in an illegal wage strike.

Samwu says many of them received the notifications on WhatsApp.

The union says it will represent them, despite issuing a directive for workers to return to work.

"We will definitely represent them and the situation is getting worse because more workers are getting letters of dismissal," said Precious Theledi, Samwu acting regional secretary.

"But it's unfortunate that the city is continuing to dismiss workers and some of the people that are receiving letters now – they’re receiving letters through WhatsApp -- they’re receiving letters that were written or rather backdated to 3 August and they received those letters on the 23rd."
