SALGA conference hopes to improve municipality performance

JOHANNESBURG - Improving the performance of municipalities will be on top of the Mayors' Conference hosted by SALGA in East London.

That is according to SALGA CEO Lance Joel.

At the conference, President Cyril Ramaphosa said failure of local government impacts economic growth and job creation.

He delivered the keynote address in the opening session of the SALGA mayors' conference.

According to Ramaphosa, provinces cannot drive recovery programmes with poor performance from local governments.

Mayors from across the country are gathering at the East London ICC to deliberate on service provision, local governance and strengthening municipalities.
