SA weather | Eastern Cape residents urged to be cautious

PORT ST JOHNS - The National Disaster Management Centre has been directed to coordinate teams to respond to floods in parts of the Eastern Cape.

Rain has been lashing Port St Johns and while there have been no fatalities or injuries reported yet, residents there are under threat.

Mayor Novuzo Mlombile-Cingo is urging people to be cautious.

"We were in a town hall having a community meeting, even our town hall was flooded.

"The situation is very bad at the moment. As I'm speaking it's raining heavily right now," she said on Thursday evening.

"There are landslides, trees that are falling and blocking some of the roads."
