JOHANNESBURG - South Africa has been ranked as one of the worst places for expats to live according to those who took part in an InterNations survey.
South Africa came in at 48 out of 53 countries.
Internations CEO Malte Zeeck explains the reasons behind this low ranking.
Zeeck said, "South Africa ranks 48th out of 53 destinations and there are a few major factors that contribute to this rather low ranking."

"In the quality of life of index we found two of these areas, the first major issue is public transportation, South Africa ranks less globally for both the affordability and availability of public transportation."
"The country also comes last for the ease and safety of getting around on foot or by bicycle, this can be especially difficult for short term expats who might not have a car or another reliable mode of getting around, and then of course another big issue here is safety and security."
"South Africa ranks last for both personal safety and political stabililty, and this has been an ongoing issue. South Africa has ranked last for personal safety in the last five years of the survey and not much better before."
