JOHANNESBURG - Essential institutions like hospitals, clinics, schools and police stations must now be exempt from power outages, according to a judgment delivered by the High Court in Pretoria.

South African Federation of Trade Unions General Secretary Zwelinzima Vavi says government must use the opportunity to roll out solar panels.

Public Enterprises Minister, Pravin Gordhan was given 60 days to take all reasonable steps to ensure these establishments are not impacted by electricity blackouts.
