JOHANNESBURG - The government shouldn't waste time by appealing the court ruling forcing them to exempt hospitals, schools, and police stations from power cuts.
That's the word from UDM leader Bantu Holomisa.
High Court rules hospitals, schools be exempt from blackouts
Holomisa says saving people's lives should be a priority.
The government needs to focus on making sure that these facilities are exempt from blackouts.
At the same time, ActionSA says the judgment is a victory for those who are dependent on these facilities.
The UDM and 17 other organisations launched a legal bid against the government.
The North Gauteng High Court ruled that hospitals, schools and police stations must not be affected by power cuts.
Public Enterprises Minister, Pravin Gordhan was given 60 days to take all reasonable steps to ensure these establishments are not impacted by electricity blackouts.
