JOHANNESBURG - The Sizwe Kupelo Foundation is urging the government to tighten regulations regarding the ownership of pitbulls in South Africa.
This comes after a 67 year- man was mauled to death by his own pitbulls in the Eastern Cape.
The foundation has been advocating for a complete ban on pitbulls in the country.
They have not received any update on the matter since their meeting last year.
Kupelo expressed his concern over the government's slow response.
“We’ve done everything in our power to talk to authorities. We have engaged with various stake holders, who are involved, who are working with this type of a breed. This is taking too, long, people are dying. Authorities are very much aware of the damage caused by these animals,” he said.
“The last meeting that we had when we handed the petition was in February 2023, it is now 2024 and there has been no update on the part of the government, and citizens are dying,” he added.
