JOHANNESBURG - South Africa is battling a severe literacy crisis.
A 2021 report indicated that 81 percent of Grade 4 pupils could not read for meaning in any language.
The Centre for African Language Teaching at the University of the Western Cape, is hosting a Reading Indaba to address illiteracy and try and find ways to turn things around.
The University’s Lecturer Thembisa Kosi discussed the indaba with eNCA.
