Only 16-percent of South Africa’s 257 municipalities have been given a clean audit by the Auditor General for the 2020-21 financial year.
He said, "political contestation and infighting, lack of skills failure to adhere to legislation, poor governance lack of accountability as well as what I would call "super corruption" are causing instability in municipalities and an eroding provision of services to ordinary South Africans...this is a crisis."
"It is the crisis of enormous proportions. Continuing on this trajectory is neither available nor sustainable... it undermines constitution promise of human dignity...it is threat to our constitutional order," the president continued.
