JOHANNESBURG - President Cyril Ramaphosa has described Frene Ginwala as selfless and someone with a deep love for humanity, always standing up against the abuse of power.
Ramaphosa gave the eulogy at Ginwala's memorial service in Johannesburg on Tuesday.
Ginwala was the first Speaker of the country's democratic Parliament.
Ramaphosa has praised her as someone who embodied the spirit of fairness and integrity.
"She stood for a South Africa that was united in its diversity," he said.
"She cherished a society where all may embrace and celebrate their many identities, cultures, languages and faiths."
Ginwala passed away on 12 January at the age of 90.
