Ramaphosa: AU makes progress in ending conflicts

ADDIS ABABA - President Cyril Ramaphosa says great progress has been made towards silencing the guns in Africa by 2030.

That's the Africa Union's deadline for ending conflict on the continent.

Ramaphosa was speaking after the end of the 36th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the Union this weekend.

It was held in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa.

Ramaphosa says the AU is bringing peace to Ethiopia and the eastern DRC.

"We were able to report on the various conflicts that are taking place on the continent. Of course, we started off with great success in relation to Ethiopia, where there was a settlement in South Africa facilitated," Ramaphosa said.

"We were able get the government of Ethiopia and the Tigray Liberation Front to agree on a cessation of hostilities and start working on peace."
