CAPE TOWN - Deputy President Paul Mashatile was invited to the Masjidul-Quds Institute to witness the breaking of the fast in Ramadan at the Gatesville Mosque in Cape Town.
The historic Masjidul-Quds Mosque in Gatesville is one of the biggest in South Africa.
Every year, the Mosque hosts a unique Inter-Faith IFTAAR to promote the idea of unity in diversity among influential South Africans.
Mashatile highlighted the value of having conversations to address the main problems common South Africans face.
“We must dialogue about such wide ranging issues and topics that may include the following: Jobs and job creation, dealing with crime, kidnappings, extortions, vandalism on infrastructure.
"But more importantly ensuring visible policing and police response to citizens is timeous to deal with incidents of crime," he said.
"Secondly, we must ensure that we deal with the problem of poor governance and poor government support for many in our communities, particularly small businessess that are really struggling.
"Thirdly, there’s a challenge of housing in many of our areas. We can see the persistent problems of backyard dwellings in many of our communities, poor public transport and of course in many of our provinces -- including here in the Western Cape -- we have been involved in struggle and I want us to continue that proud tradition of the struggle for liberation.”
