R247m spent but Sarah Baartman Centre left incomplete

HANKEY - The community of Hankey in the Eastern Cape are concerned over delays in the completion of the Sarah Baartman Centre of Remembrance

Construction was started over a decade ago.

But with R247-million already spent on three different construction companies, the centre is nowhere near complete.

Eastern Cape premier Oscar Mabuyane has called on the relevant departments to have this matter sorted.

Mabuyane says the difficulties faced are because Public Works is the development agent, while the project falls under the Department of Arts and Culture.
