JOHANNESBURG - Public service unions are threatening a full-blown strike if government doesn't meet their wage demands.
Unions affiliated with Cosatu and Saftu are demanding a 10-percent increase but government is offering just 3-percent.
Trade unions are set to serve the public service and administration department with a strike notice next week.
Saftu's general secretary, Zwelinzima Vavi says the battle lines have been drawn.
He said, "what government did are three things, in 2018 government refused to implement last leg of an agreement signed...government then does second thing to undermine collective bargaining, implementing its 3-percent offer, another assault on collective bargaining...unions are saying that's enough, we're drawing a line on the sand."
