Public sector strike | Concern over acts of violence, intimidation

JOHANNESBURG - The Eastern Cape health department has slammed the ongoing violence and intimidation by protesting Nehawu members.

In the Buffalo City Metro, workers are vowing to intensify their strike action.

This despite a court interdict barring the strike from continuing.

Defiant workers say they are not backing down.

They are now mobilising more workers to join the strike as they push for a 10 percent wage increase.

"Despite the interdict being in place, the one gate has been obstructed, various acts, two reported acts of fires, EMS cars being burned, colleagues physically assaulted," said Eastern Cape Health HOD Rolene Wagner.

Wagner says it has become ugly as acts of intimidation are prevalent with people being told their addresses are known.
