The organisation says there was a need of a competent presence to guide the Public Protector's operations, following the suspension of Busisiwe Mkhwebane.
And Gcaleka, as deputy, was the right person to step in.
Public Interest SA's Tebogo Khaas said, "we do not support her per se as an individual but we've said we support her nomination."
"And the fact that she is and is fit for the job as far as we are concerned. She has exuded the kinds of competencies, attitude and aptitude to carry out the responsibilities of that office."
"She has done well in the interviews."
"We believe that she is the right person for the job. We think that she is cut for it, she has got the experience, she's been deputised three and a half years, or more. And today her acting stint, she's acquitted herself very well."
"We had three reports one from SARS, one from the reserve bank all clearing the president now we have got another report from the public protector also doing the same thing."
