President Ramaphosa ousts Hlophe and Motata

JOHANNESBURG - President Cyril Ramaphosa has officially given the boot to Judges John Hlophe and Nkola Motata.

He did this in accordance with the Constitution and a resolution by the National Assembly.

Hlophe, Judge President of the Western Cape High Court, was removed from his position.

Meanwhile retired Judge Motata was ousted due to gross misconduct dating back from a drunk driving conviction in 2009.

The National Assembly's vote to remove the judges required a two-thirds majority, as outlined in Section 177 of the Constitution.
