Possible conflict of interest in Modack trial

CAPE TOWN - Alleged gang boss Nafiz Modack and his 14 co-accused have returned to the Western Cape High Court after a month-long court recess.

The group, which the state says is a criminal enterprise, collectively face 124 charges including murder, attempted murder, money laundering and corruption.

This includes the murder of Anti Gang detective Charl Kinnear and the attempted murder of top criminal lawyer William Booth.

But the proceedings came to an abrupt halt due to concerns of a possible conflict of interest involving one of the lawyers.

The case continues on Wednesday.
