Political parties share expectations for 2025 Gauteng SOPA

JOHANNESBURG - Premier Panyaza Lesufi’s will deliver the 2025 State of the Province Address (SOPA) on Monday.

The premier will reflect on the government’s achievements and challenges over the past year and outline the province’s priorities and plans for the year ahead.

Political parties shared their expectations ahead of the SOPA on social media.

"The people of Gauteng cannot afford another SOPA filled with empty promises and gimmicks—they need real, measurable progress. Premier Lesufi must provide clear updates, backed by data and timelines, on whether his administration’s interventions have made any impact," a statement released by Action SA reads.

The party called for specific responses to Gauteng’s water crisis, issues in the healthcare sector, economic growth and job creation, and infrastructure and inner-city development.

The Democratic Alliance's Solly Msimanga said on X, "As Gauteng crumbles, we expect nothing but continued broken promises from the Gauteng Premier, Panyaza Lesufi's state of the province address today."

The ANC Youth League in Gauteng called for the address to bring hope, saying, "Our anticipation is heightened by the state of disillusionment the youth of Gauteng find themselves in."

The GOOD Party in Tshwane released a statement calling for a focus on job creation and fighting corruption.

Build One SA's Ayanda Allie shared a "true state of the province" video and statement.
