ROODERPORT - Gauteng Provincial commissioner Tommy Mthombeni says police are working closely with schools across the province to curb school violence.
Mtombeni revealed this on Thursday as he led his team in Roodepoort for another round of Operation Shanela.
The Gauteng Legislature of the Portfolio Committee on Community Safety have raised concerns over safety in schools.
A recent investigations by the safety committee revealed a scourge of violence at schools.
It exposed pupils carrying dangerous weapons, illicit substances being abused on school premises and disturbing incidents of bullying, gangsterism, and tribalism leaving both learners and educators at risk.

In response to this, law enforcement agencies have been roped in to help curb violent behavior in schools.
Some of the other interventions include the presence of security guards, or patrollers to enhance visible policing.
