BENONI - Members of the Organised Crime Unit have made a breakthrough in their investigations into illegal mining.
They recovered military explosive devices and equipment in Benoni earlier today.
This after receiving information that they were due to be delivered to illegal miners on Snake Road.
Seven hand grenades, a smoke generator and eighteen military switches were recovered.
The Germiston Bomb Disposal unit was dispatched to the scene to safely recover the equipment.
An inquiry is underway to determine the origin of the explosives.
