Police investigating cause of bus crash near UJ

JOHANNESBURG - At least 70 people have been injured after two buses collided near the University of Johannesburg's Auckland Park campus.

No fatalities have been reported.

UJ says that one of the buses was transporting at least 19 students between different university campuses.

They say three of these students have been hospitalised, while several others with minor injuries are receiving treatment at the university medical facility.

Johannesburg Metro Police Department says a case of reckless and negligent driving will be opened at a police station.

JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla said, "We can confirm a serious accident in Auckland Park at the UJ entrance involving two buses. One is a COJ bus and the other a privately owned."

"There's at least 70 injured reported slight or serious. No fatalities reported."

"We have officers and paramedics on scene. We can't determine the cause of the accident. A case of reckless and negligent driving will be opened at the nearest police station to determine what caused the accident."
