Police increase visibility on M1 following robbery

JOHANNESBURG - The daily commute to work in Johannesburg has become even scarier.

This after armed robbers targeted drivers on the M1 North on Tuesday morning during rush hour.

The robbers, believed to be illegal miners, were seen moving between vehicles on the jam-packed road.

Police have increased their visibility on the highway.

Drones are also being used to track any illegal activity in the area.

"On a daily basis we have static deployments along the highways to ensure that there is a higher police visibility to deter any criminal activities from taking place," said police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe.

"What is also important is that we've increased police resources along that particular route."
