Police arrest one fugitive, hunt for second continues

NKANDLA - A manhunt continues for one of the two convicted criminals who escaped from Nkandla and Vryheid correctional centres earlier this week.

On Wednesday, police re-arrested 34-year-old Siyabonga Sikhakhane.
He is serving 16 years in prison for housebreaking and theft.
Correctional Services Spokesperson Singabakho Nxumalo says an investigation has been launched into how these criminals escaped because officials were meant to be monitoring them.

He said, "we can confirm Siyabonga is back in our care, he appeared in court yesterday. The hunt is still on for Simelane."

"We will find him, it might not be now but we will find him."

"We launched an investigation to look at how exactly they escaped. "

"They escaped when they were out with the working teams and there were officials who should have been watching them."
