CAPE TOWN - International Relations and Cooperation Minister Naledi Pandor says the meeting of Brics foreign ministers will focus on strengthening global governance systems.
Pandor says Brics remains a key bloc as it seeks to build bridges with the global community.
She says Brics nations must provide leadership in a world fractured by geopolitical tensions and competition.
Pandor was speaking to her Brics counterparts in Cape Town ahead of as they meet ahead of the summit in August.
She said, "In 2015, the world joined together to adopt the 2030 agenda for sustainable development."
"The opening lines of the preamble to the goals reminded us this agenda is a plan of action for people, planet and prosperity. It also seeks to strengthen universal peace and larger freedoms. We recognised that it continued that eradicating poverty in all it's forms is the greated challenge and an indispensable requirement for sustainable development. All countries promised to implement this plan. It continued we are resolved to free the human race from the tyranny of poverty and want and to heal and secure our planet."
