JOHANNESBURG - Former paralympic athlete, Oscar Pistorius has been granted parole on Friday after he was ruled ineligible for early release in March.

He was sentenced to 15 years in prison for the murder of his then-girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, in 2013.
When his bid for freedom collapsed earlier this year, he approached the Constitutional Court to clarify his eligibility.
Pistorius' parole will come into effect on 5 January 2024.
"The parole placement for Mr Oscar Pistorius has been confirmed effectively from 5 January 2024."
"What will happen from now until the month of January 2023 will be what we call a pre-release program. That's where an inmate is prepared for a life outside of a correctional facility."
"As some of you may expect, a person may not find it easy to adjust so psychologically you ought to prepare that inmate that not everyone will welcome you, " Correctional Services' spokesperson Singabakho Nxumalo said.
