JOHANNESBURG - The functionality of the SAPS's 10111 call centres has been called into question as many calls are either dropped or go unanswered.
There has a push to create an alternative hotline for South Africans to use.
Crisis on Call's Ruan Vermaak says that with over 10,000 calls a day, these centres are severely understaffed.
"That's definitely a messed up situation in South Africa especially when you look at the governmental services at the moment," says Vermaak.
"It takes longer for the call to eventually end up at the dispatchers where they can send out the emergency vehicles," he adds.
Therefore, the private sector and security services are taking this over and now servicing the clients and the public in the times of need which is now a big thing.
