Police fighting to stop common assault
JOHANNESBURG - Acting Gauteng Police Commissioner Tommy Mthombeni is pleading with people not to fight this festive season.
He says contact crimes like common assault contribute to the top offences in the province.

Mthombeni was speaking during Operation Shanela in Boksburg.
"The fact remain is that where there's society you'll have some of these crimes being committed," he said.
"What its important is that in order to fight these crimes, to ensure that we look into the six-pillar approach."
