The police took operation Shanela to KwaDukuza, in Ilemebe district.
They raided illegal shops, confiscating fake and expired goods and as well as pharmacies that sell fake medication.
KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Jay Naicker says they will be more visible as the festive season approaches.
"Operations are being ramped up across the province including the other 10 districts just to ensure that we are in place," he said.
"When we have visitors coming to our province they feel safe, its also for the safety of our citizens.”
