JOHANNESBURG - Police say they're clamping down on illegal miners in Gauteng.
Police arrested 35 illegal miners in an operation in Roodepoort on Thursday.
The O Kae Molao operations have become a part of the Gauteng policing DNA.
But questions have been posed on the successful convictions of those arrested here.
In July last year, dozens of arrests were made following the gang-rape of a film crew at an abandoned mine.
But to date, there are no suspects in the dock.
“No, you know for the rapes we are still looking for them," said Gauteng Provincial Police Commissioner Elias Mawela.
"Remember for now we have the specimen there, so we need to get the people and then link them to what we have in the database.”
