JOHANNESBURG - A 49-year-old male nurse, from Duduza, in the East of Gauteng is in court for sexual assault.
He is accused of allegedly raping two teenage boys in separate incidents.
According to Gauteng National Prosecuting Authority’s Lumka Mahanjana the nurse started grooming a 17-year-old patient who was in his care in August 2023.
“During [the teens] stay at the hospital, it is alleged that the accused made advances towards the boy. The boy was later discharged from the hospital because his medical aid was depleted, and he was unable to continue with his stay at the hospital. However, the accused allegedly promised to continue caring for the boy and bring him medication at his home until he fully recovered,” Mahanjana detailed.
She said after the boy was discharged the male nurse would allegedly visit the boy at his home to bring him medication, only for the accused to lure him to the veld where he would allegedly sexually assault the boy.
This was brought to light after the nurse was spotted acting suspiciously in the veld by community members who were jogging.
“The community members then called the police, and the boy and the accused were then taken to the police station. At the police station, the boy reported what was happening,” Mahanjana said adding that it was at the police station when the second boy came forward and reported that he, too, was sexually assaulted by the accused.
The accused was arrested and is remanded in custody. In court, the matter was postponed to Friday, 21 February 2025 for a formal bail application.
