No water shortages in Joburg, says Dada Morero

JOHANNESBURG - Johannesburg Mayor Dada Morero has assured residents that the City has no shortage of water.

He said Joburg Water was focusing on pressure management strategies to minimise losses and ensure efficient distribution.

Providing an update on service delivery progress and infrastructure development on Wednesday, Morero said the City had installed leak detection tools called “noise loggers”, which monitor a water supply system and send alerts when a leak does develop.

“These noise loggers have been installed across central Randburg and Roodepoort. So far, we have installed around 125 noise loggers.

“By the end of April, we expect to complete their commissioning, and by June 2025, we will have installed an additional 400,” Morero said.

For informal settlements and those areas that experience outages, the mayor said stationary and roaming water tankers had been deployed.

Morero has, however, warned against illegal water connections.

“We will not tolerate lawlessness, and we will intensify efforts to disconnect illegal water connections throughout the City of Johannesburg,” he said.
