New Ekurhuleni mayor calls for calm

JOHANNESBURG - The new Ekurhuleni mayor is calling for calm in the metro.

Sivuyile Ngodwana -- from the African Independent Congress -- says the municipality may be going through political changes, but the needs of the people should be top priority.

Ngodwana took the place of the DA's Tania Campbell, who was voted out in a motion of no-confidence.

"We call upon calmness across the entire institution while we will be undergoing certain processes of political changes," he told council members.

"Every employee must continue with their normal work of ensuring that local communities are given service efficiently."

Ngodwana says he will focus on disadvantaged areas that been deprived of service delivery.
