CAPE TOWN - Kwanele is a new digital tool to track and help counter sexual misconduct at the University of Cape Town.
The survivor-centred app allows GBV incidents to be reported without fear of persecution or shaming.
The institution says the app can gather live evidence that can be used for disciplinary process if a sexual crime has been reported.
Ann Isaac is the legal manager of UCT's Special Tribunal that deals with formal disciplinary processes for sexual misconduct.
She says the app will be very useful to victims and will make it easier for them to report perpetrators.
"The evidence of someone's experience can be stored in a vault and this evidence becomes very material for us when we take the matter though the disciplinary process since it becomes very traumatic for victims to recall the events of their attack in most cases," Isaac explained.
