PRETORIA - Defence Minister Thandi Modise says the army is on standby for the planned national shutdown on Monday.
The EFF-organised shutdown is calling for President Cyril Ramaphosa's resignation and an end to rolling blackouts and unemployment, among other demands.

Some opposition parties, businesses and taxi groups are rejecting the shutdown.
Security cluster ministers have assured the public that Monday will be a normal day and they will be protected.
"There's a question whether or not the SANDF will be deployed, we're on standby," she said.
