JOHANNESBURG - National police commissioner Fannie Masemola has read the riot act to his officers, or rather he read the Constitution.
He was reminding them of their duties ahead of the planned national shutdown on Monday.

"If I can remind you what the Constitution says... prevent combat and investigate," Masemola said.
"You shall maintain public order. You shall protect the inhabitants and their property. We shall uphold and enforce the law... Protect those protesting and protect those that will not be participating, without hesitation, without fear or favour."
