Motion against NMB mayor on the cards

GQEBERHA - The DA in the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro is expected to table a motion against mayor Gary van Niekerk.

In August, he survived another motion brought by Defenders of the People councillor Tukela Zumani.

According to Zumani, Van Niekerk acted in breach of Section 2 of the Code of Conduct for Councillors.

This states a councillor must perform his functions in good faith, honestly and transparently.

A total of 57 councillors voted for his removal and 62 voted against it.

At the same time, the DA will stage a picket outside the Feather Market to protest increased water tariffs.
