Hlabisa urges people not to settle on unsuitable land

CAPE TOWN - Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs Minister, Velenkosini Hlabisa is pleading with the people of the Western Cape not to place their lives in danger by living on land that is not suitable for human settlement. 

Hlabisa together with Deputy Ministers Prince Zolile Burns Ncamashe and Dr Dickson Masemola and their provincial and local counterparts, visited some of the areas affected by the adverse weather conditions.

Western Cape has been declared a state of disaster area following severe weather conditions over the past 8 days. 

About hundred thousand people have been left homeless in the province after tens of thousands of structures were damaged. 

It's understood it will cost over a billion rand to repair the damage. Ayesha Ismail filed this report.
