Millions more for abandoned prison project in Free State

PARYS, Free State - Wasteful spending by government departments remains a concern.

A new correctional service facility in the Free State has not been finished by the chosen contractor

Public Works and Infrastructure Minister, Sihle Zikalala says the department will ensure strict monitoring of its contractors.

He said, "They were paid for the work done. Once you do work, we then give you a certificate that is submitted to the Department and then we pay for that work."

"We don't pay for the work that is not done. As a reason why they failed after COVID, I think they are better placed to answer on that. That's why we want to ensure strict monitoring for contractors doing our projects."
