DURBAN - The eThekwini Municipality has assured Umlazi residents that the long-awaited arrival of running water is just around the corner.
Mayor Mxolisi Kaunda made this promise during a meeting with the residents, prompted by recent community protests.
Expressing frustration over three months without water and a lack of urgency and communication from the authorities, residents engaged eThekwini officials and the mayor.
During the meeting, various concerns were raised, leading residents to issue an ultimatum for the resolution of the water crisis.
In a separate incident, members of the BB section community took to the streets, in protest.

The residents further expressed fear, noting that they receive death threats when attempting to raise issues regarding service delivery.
Mayor Kaunda blamed the lack of water on deteriorating infrastructure.
But he's promising solutions that include the construction of a dam to ensure a long-term supply to the southern areas of Durban.
