JOHANNESBURG - It's been a long journey for the class of 2023, who now embark on their next chapter.
When the Covid-19 pandemic was at its peak, South Africa went into lockdown and school gates were closed.
Many learners were forced to stay at home while others resorted to rotational learning.
This is the first matric class to experience disruptions from earlier grades.
Basic Education spokesperson, Elijah Mhlanga, is adamant that despite all the challenges, the matric class of 2023 will do better.
Education specialist Mary Metcalfe says while final exams focus on Grades 10 to 12, the foundation is very important.
"To my knowledge, there were no instances of leaked papers. This is a massive undertaking with so many people involved," she said.
