JOHANNESBURG - A new survey has reinforced that South Africa’s educational outcomes are dire.
The latest Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study results have revealed that Grade 5 pupils ranked last among 59 countries in maths and science.

Another assessment found that Grade 6 learners and teachers have dropped in reading and mathematics.
Last year the Progress in International Reading Literacy Study showed that in 2021 81-percent of grade 4 learners were unable to read for meaning in any language.
