Mangaung Metro on verge of forfeiting R200m grant

BLOEMFONTEIN - Mangaung Metro is at it again.

This time around, the serial offender in-terms of forfeiting grants is about to lose a whooping R200- million back to Treasury.

This is an unspent grant, despite the metro's struggles to provide basic services and repair crumbling infrastructure.

The only metro in the Free State has previously forfeited unspent grants twice.

One of the conditions to administer the grant is to have duly appointed senior management in place.

The metro only appointed the City Manager last month and rushed to appoint the Chief Financial Officer only last week.

The biggest losers will be the residents who have been complaining about the slow pace of service delivery for years.

The municipality says it's in the process of filling other key strategic vacancies of heads of various departments in the City.
