BLOEMFONTEIN - The Free State ANC is threatening legal action against the election of Mangaung's new mayor.
In a surprise twist, Papi Mokoena of the Afrikan Alliance of Social Democrats took the mayoral chains.
The metro had been without a mayor since Mxolisi Siyonzana resigned last month.
The ANC recalled Siyonzana, his deputy, and the Speaker for not delivering services.
Mokoena's election means the opposition is in charge of key positions.
