The man had been arrested after a stolen car was found at the house where the former president used to reside.

The NPA says there is insufficient evidence to charge him.

The car in question was found at the former President's residence in Houghton, and the state says it is still investigating a possible connection between the heir and the crime.

In a statement, the NPA confirmed his release.

Mbuso Mandela was seen walking out of the Johannesburg Magistrate's Court shortly after court proceedings.

Meanwhile, four suspects appeared before Magistrate Johan Herman.

They face three charges, with an identity parade expected to be concluded over the weekend.

The case against the four has been postponed to next Friday.
