JOHANNESBURG - South Africa's Constitution explicitly says that every child has the right to be protected from maltreatment, neglect, abuse or degradation.

However, this is not the reality for many in South Africa.

Rates of sexual violence are one of the highest in the world. In the country, the latest crime stats reveal that  52 children are sexually abused in our country, every day.

That figure equates to 40% of the total reported sexual offences committed against children.

Clinical psychologist, Vossie Goosen says he country is dealing with adults who view children as adults. 

While noting that some perpetrators suffer from past trauma. Goosen effort has to be made to ensure that they deal with their issues.
