JOHANNESBURG - Security is being beefed up inside the Kruger National Park.
But there are concerns for safety outside their boundaries.
Last month, a German tourist was shot dead in a hijacking en route to a lodge.
SANParks says they have engaged with both police and the community to ensure the area is safe.
"We are a very concerned party when it comes to tourism safety but our jurisdiction as pertains to law enforcement only lies within the boundaries of the Kruger National Park," said spokesperson Isaac Phaahla.
"We have engaged with the South African police services and they have assured us that they will increase patrols. There is a particular stretch of road which is the R538 and that is where people have to be extra vigilant."
