JOHANNESBURG - The decommissioning and repurposing of coal-fired power stations has started.
The Komati Power Station in Mpumalanga has been firing since 1961 but it's shutting down.
According to Eskom, the power plant's decommissioning will not have a significant impact on the national grid.
Instead, the Komati repowering and repurposing project will go ahead.
Earlier this month, President Cyril Ramaphosa announced South Africa's investment in low-carbon generation capacity like renewable energy alternatives.
