KWANOBUHLE - Residents of Kariega are pleading with authorities to patrol the streets because they feel that power cuts are exacerbating the crime in the area.
One resident shared, "once load-shedding starts, incidents of crime always occur. Our children are being shot and we don't know who the shooters are. It's horrible this pains me."
"You cannot even send children to the shops. As a community, we are not doing anything to fight crime because we lack honesty."
"What is happening is painful for us as parents, as mothers. We want police to patrol our streets, especially during load-shedding because we live in fear."
